Pragyan Social Responsibility in association with The Third Dimension, Aero- modelling Club of the National Institute of Technology Trichy organised an event to spread interest and awareness in science among underprivileged school students. It was conducted at a Tamil Nadu State Government Matriculation Higher Secondary School Thiruverumbur on 6th December 2013. The principal and the staff of MHSS were present during the event.

 

The event consisted of simple experiments conducted with things available around us to help the school students understand the basic concepts they study in school. Two sessions were conducted, one for 10th class students from 10 am to 1 am and the next session was conducted for 11th class students from 2 pm to 5 pm.

 

The event took place in the school hall. Notepads and pens were distributed to all the students. A brief introduction about the program was given by Mr. Karthik Vinayaga Moorthy, President of The Third Dimension, Aero-modelling Club. The experiments were prepared by members of the Club specifically for school students according to their present curriculum. It was an interactive session where the students were called to perform a set of experiments based on basic Physics and Aerodynamics. The concepts behind the experiments were explained by Mr. Anand P.J., Miss. S.A.Sivaragavi and Miss. Nanthini  in simple language for the better understanding of the students.

 

The students were encouraged to ask doubts related to the experiments. Some simple questions were asked during the session to make the students think a little deeper about the concepts. Videos were shown to help them visualize the concepts clearly. After the session a small test was conducted to check the effectiveness of the session and to see how well the students were able to grasp the concepts being discussed. Then a feedback about the program was collected from the students and the faculty present.

 

After the session Mr. Muthu Veerappan, Head-Pragyan Social Responsibility, explained the students about the admission procedure of various colleges in and around Trichy. The main emphasis was on IITs, NITs and colleges under Anna University. Contact details were provided to the students for further assistance and also to receive study materials and college books for entrance exams free of cost as a part of Pragyan Social Responsibility.
