Pragyan Social Responsibility
DHISAI
Pragyan Social Responsibility (PSR) team as a part of Pragyan – 2015 activities, conducted Dhisai, an awareness programme about Joint Entrance Examinations for Tamil Nadu school students. As part of the initiative, nearly 2400 schools were reached and successful interaction was achieved.
Spanning 13 districts of TN – Trichy, Perambalur, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Madurai, Kanchipuram, Kovai, Ooty, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari and Thiruvallur – the Collectors and Chief Education Officers were contacted and detailed about this initiative and the further plans. Receiving an enthusiastic response, 3 booklets comprising information about the examination and details of preparation needed in both Tamil and English, and the information about the deadlines and how to apply for this examination, were sent to nearly 2400 schools, by both hard copy and digital form.
All the schools received a letter from the Dr. Srinivasan Sundarrajan, Director, NIT Trichy along with the booklets. The detailed information comprised in these booklets included a discussion about what are the IIT’s and NIT’s, why they are considered India’s best technical institutions, what are the possible fields available to pursue, and why everyone can achieve this. Considering the varied demographic and languages of the students, this information was made available in both English and Tamil.
In Trichy, Collector Jayashree Muralidharan I.A.S. inaugurated this function in Manachanallur Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Trichy and spoke about the importance of a sound technical education in life. Following this, buses were arranged to bring the students to NIT Trichy, and a tour of the campus was specially arranged for them. A similar event was also conducted in Coimbatore, where the Deputy Collector of Coimbatore presided and presented the booklets.
Currently, Pragyan has been contacted by more than 1000 students seeking information about the JEE and so, as a further initiative, PSR has partnered with ROTARACT club to conduct a Mock JEE (Mains) test in the coming weeks. This is open for all school students of Class 12, and will be conducted in Trichy.
PATHFINDER
Also, the PSR conducted its first outreach programme, Pathfinder, an everything-about-higher-education fair at Coimbatore Institute of Technology (CIT), Coimbatore on December 14, 2014.
Pathfinder, the one day event, brought educational institutes, embassies, exam coaching institutes and banks under one roof. Students aspiring to study in other countries for their Graduate and Doctoral degrees got to know about all the procedures involved, from the preparation needed to the facilities, travel and financial aids available.
Aimed to be highly interactive and easily accessible, Pathfinder made educational embassies like British Council and University of Hertfordshire available for interaction with the visitors. Fluency Centre, The Chopras, Career Zone and GRE Toppers were among the qualification exam counselling centres at the event, which helped the students know about the preparation needed for various universities. Also, details about the prospective financial aids were briefed by the UCO Bank.
Pragyan, known nationwide for its 4 day techno-managerial festival at NIT Trichy, believes that initiatives like these provide a platform for students to explore the various opportunities available. Pragyan 2015, the main festival will be held from 26 February to March 1 at NIT Trichy.
