VIEW PROBLEM STATEMENT FOR IMAGES.

                CASH PRIZE - INR 5000

No of rounds: 1

Word limit: 500

  • Participants should draft a science fiction story (of about 500 words) based on images(atleast two). The different images to choose from will be released on the Pragyan website on 5th February 2017 and will also be posted on social networking sites (such as Facebook and Twitter).

  • Participants will be given a duration of fifteen days to draft their story. The entries must be submitted to stringtheory@pragyan.org  along with the chosen images on or before 21th February 2017.

  • The story must be submitted as a word document (.doc or .docx).  The participant must include their name, registered mail ID, college name and contact number in the header of the document containing their story. The name of the document must be of the form, ImageNumbers_TitleOfTheStory.

The stories will be judged based on the creativity, the ideas put forward, and their scientific plausibility. This means that the story must only be an extension of the current scientific knowledge, i.e. the story must be a reasonable extrapolation of some existing scientific laws or theories.

Good Example:

Warp drives can be used in the story as they are scientifically plausible; there exists a theoretical framework called the ‘Alcubierre Drive’ - a warp speed propulsion system that uses a theoretical form of matter called negative matter.

Bad Example:

The concept of psychic powers would be a bad example because it is not scientifically proven to be possible. Use of such ideas is not encouraged.

The best three writers will be selected as the winners.

  • The story should not exceed 500 words.

  • The story should be original and should strictly adhere to the theme of the image chosen.

  • Plagiarism is strictly not allowed.

  • The decision of the judges is final and binding.
