Jalyaan requires you to build a remote-controlled boat. The participants will be tested on their designing, boat-controlling and problem-solving skills.

Rules:

Rules regarding the event:

  • If a boat starts before the whistle, the counter will be restarted, and it will be given a second chance. However, if any boat starts before the whistle the second time, it will be disqualified.
  • The participants must place their boats at the start/ finish line before the start of the race.
  • If there is a tie then the respective teams will be given one more run.
  • The track will have checkpoints at regular intervals. If a boat tumbles, halts or goes off the arena at any point, one of the organisers will lift it up and place it at the nearest preceding checkpoint. Until then, all the stopwatches will be paused.

Rules regarding boat and teams:

  • There can be a maximum of 3 members in a team.
  • The team need not consist of students from the same college.
  • There is no restriction on the number of teams from each college.
  • The length of the boat should be less than 17 inches.
  • The width of the boat should be less than 8 inches.
  • The battery used should have a capacity of less than 12 V.
  • RPM of the motor should be less than 8000. More than one motor, if required, can be used.

NOTE: When one participant is performing, others have to hand over their remote controllers to the event organisers. Under all circumstances, the judges' and event coordinators' decision is final and binding on all participants.

 

Judging criteria:

Round 1:

  • The participants have to guide their boat to traverse a track.

  • Each boat has to carry two loads.

  • Participants will be judged on the basis of the time taken.

Round 2:

  • 4 balloons will be attached to the boat and a needle in front of it.

  • Participants have to solve puzzles while saving their balloons from bursting. If all the balloons are burst, then the team will be out.

  • For solving the puzzle, 10 points are given.

  • For bursting the balloons, 2 points are given.

  • Puzzle solving - The participants are required to solve the given puzzle. The answer to the puzzle will be in the form of words wherein she/ he requires to control the boat to travel from the first letter to the last letter which is placed in the pool.

Round 1: Written abstract round

  • The participants have to submit the written abstract containing the details of every part used in the boat.
  • The last date for abstract submission is 3rd March 2019.
  • Abstract file should be named as Teamname_collegename.

      The written abstract should be prepared on the following lines:

  •  The power supply method should be explained in detail, along with proper diagrams. Picture(s) showing these can be attached.
  •  Description of any unusual advantageous mechanism used.
  • The specifications of all the components used, including motors, remote controller, wires, battery, etc. must be mentioned.

 

Round 2: Video abstract round

  • In this round, the participants have to submit a video (maximum duration: 5 minutes) which shows the mobility of the boat.
  • This round is non-eliminative. 
  • The last date for abstract submission is 9th March 2019.
  • Abstract file should be named as Teamname_collegename.
     


Round 3: Onsite round

The selected teams have to come for the onsite rounds during Pragyan '19.

  • Onsite round 1:
    • It is a load-dragging round.
    • Participant team should take 2 loads along with the boat.
    • Participants will be judged on the basis of time.
       
  • Onsite round 2:
    • This round has a task.
    • The task will be to solve puzzles and burst the balloons of opponent teams.
    • All the boats will be in the pool and have to save their balloons.
    • The team with the most points wins.


 

Design a remote controlled boat which can complete a track with obstacles in the least amount of time and have a hook/ clamp firmly attached to the rear end of the boat that can be used to tether and pull a load (floating cube) of up to 1 kg.

Q) Can a team consist of participants from different colleges?

A) Yes

 

Q) Is UG-PG collaboration allowed?

A) Yes.

 

Q) Will any facility for charging our equipment be given at the venue?

A) Yes, 5 Amp sockets will be provided.

 

Q) When will I be intimated if I am selected for the next round?

A) As soon as the evaluation of the abstract round has completed, you will be intimated over email for the same, if qualified.
