Dr Frederick J. Raab holds a doctorate in Physics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. A member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Physical Society, he serves as an expert panellist reviewing large national programs in the fields of physical and environmental sciences, engineering and science education. Having held various positions at the University of Washington and at the California Institute of Technology, he was appointed Head of LIGO Hanford Observatory in 1995 and co-authored the LIGO construction proposal. He currently serves as the LIGO associate director for observatory operations.
