Scrap House by Builder's Hive
Make a small-scale building out of trash materials such as tyres, matchsticks, sheets,
wood and any other materials that can be found on campus.
- The participants must collect the materials from campus that they will be using for
the building construction.
- During the event, the participants will be given a fixed time duration, within which
they have to create a building model of dimensions, 90cm x 60cm x 60cm.
- Once the building is completed, the model of each team will be subjected to a
fixed load by the judges to determine its strength and stability.
- The problems are categorized based on their difficulty levels: easy, medium, and hard.
- Points are allocated to each problem according to its difficulty, with harder questions offering more points.
- There is an abundance of easier questions, while harder questions are fewer but more rewarding.
- Participants have the flexibility to approach the questions in any order they prefer.
- The event is designed to be engaging yet simple, ensuring an enriching experience for all participants
- Teams need to strategize and prioritize questions to maximize their points within the given time frame.
- Participants are allowed to use a wide range of clean and non-hazardous trash
materials, including but not limited to cardboard, plastic bottles, cans, packaging
materials, and other suitable waste items.
- The use of toxic, hazardous, or unsanitary materials is strictly prohibited.
- Participants can enter the competition individually or in teams, with a
maximum of 3 members per team.
- The participants will be given a time limit of 2 hours for building the model.
- Participants can use essential tools like scissors, utility knives, craft glue/hot
gun glue, tape and rulers.
- A panel of judges will evaluate the entries based on creativity, use of
materials, stability, aesthetic appeal and economic aspects.
- Judges may also consider how well the participants address environmental
concerns in their designs.
- Safety is a priority. Participants must handle tools and materials with utmost
care to avoid injuries.
- All participants must adhere to the competition rules and guidelines set by the
organizers.
- The decision of the judging panel will be final.
Points will be awarded to each team on the basis of:
- Load bearing capacity - 30%
- Dimensions - 10%
- Creativity - 30%
- Economical - 20%
- Time taken - 10%
Participants with the highest points total would be awarded.
