Scientific theories get proven and refuted often… the demotion of planet Pluto to a dwarf planet was one that was much deliberated upon. Meet Michael Brown the man who pushed Pluto out of the planetary pantheon. A specialist in the discovery and study of bodies at the edge of the solar system, he has to his credit numerous scientific accomplishments which include the discovery of Eris, the largest object found in the solar system in 150 years.
Named one of the "100 Most Influential People" by Time magazine in 2006 Dr.Brown has won several awards and honors including the Richard P. Feynman Award for Outstanding Teaching ,Caltech's most prestigious teaching honor.
His team has discovered many Trans-Neptunian Objects (TNOs), notably the dwarf planet Eris, the only known TNO more massive than Pluto. He is humorously referred to as the man who killed Pluto, because he furthered Pluto being downgraded to a dwarf planet in the aftermath of the discovery of Eris. He is also the author of How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming , published in 2010.
A man who is bound to charm you, Mike Brown is one who knows the joys and frustrations of search, discovery, and life. Be there at Pragyan '12 to see him live.
