Topic : Rational thinking: need of the hour
Superstition and Science don’t mix. Interestingly though, in India we seem to have an amalgamation of the two, where once scientific principles have been since clouded to become superstition. Narendra Nayak seeks to bring out the scientific truth in our beliefs and customs. Being a rationalist from Mangalore, Karnataka, he believes that the criterion of truth is not sensory, but intellectual and deductive.
He is the national president of the Federation of Indian Rationalist Associations (FIRA), which is an umbrella body of more than 75 rationalist, atheist, skeptic, secularist and science organizations in India. As an apex body of rationalist organizations, the FIRA is committed to the development of scientific temper and humanism in India.
Narendra Nayak believes in the spirit of enquiry, and is famous for conducting seminars that expose so-called miracles. Successful in conducting over 2000 demonstrations internationally where he has questioned the veracity of various common superstitions, Mr. Nayak is the epitome of a believer in scientific temper and rationalist thought. He has been featured in many television programs including the one on physical feats by the Discovery Channel, Is It Real? by National Geographic, The Secret Swami by the BBC and many others.
At Pragyan 2012, we invite you to broaden your vision and challenge your (so-far) unchallenged beliefs. This Pragyan we are proud to present an eminent intellectual, polyglot and humanitarian; a man who has dedicated his life to throwing light in the darkness surrounding myth and superstition, Mr. Narendra Nayak.
